India’s Skipper Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian state of Kano to develop small hydroelectric projects at the Tiga and Challawa dams, HydroWorld.com has learned.

The projects will have a combined output capacity of about 35 MW, allowing for improvements in Nigeria’s “power, urban renewal, vocational training, film, healthcare, textiles and garments” sectors, according to state officials.

HydroWorld.com reported in May that Russia’s JSC RusHydro had signed a deal to renovate Nigeria’s 760-MW Kainjiand 578-MW Jebba hydropower projects.
